Listed here are extracts from a questionnaire completed recently for R G P Development Services, Planning Supervisors.
By the appointment of AP Health & Safety Management we can ensure that we are kept up to date on any change in legislation especially in respect of the European Union. A large part of Health & Safety on site we feel is down to the correct assessment of the work tasks involved in a project and their appropriate evaluation in the form of specific risk assessments compiled by individuals correctly competent to do so. We then ensure the correct framework of site personnel is allocated by means of Managers, Supervisors and Operatives being adequately trained for the tasks in which they will be involved in on any given project.
As laid out in our company Health and Safety policy we, along with AP Health & Safety consultants complete the correct arrangements for effective planning, organisation, control and monitoring of Health & Safety issues.
The Construction Industry Training Board, CITB is the most important organisation that we are involved in – providing us with up to date requirements on training with regular seminars and course dates. We are affiliated with the National Federation of Demolition Contractors NFDC, in that we join in the training scheme for the certification of competence of demolition operatives undertaken by the National Demolition Training Group N.D.T.G .
Our staff all hold or are training to hold such certificates of competence for all levels, labourer to management staff. We also actively encourage all staff to maintain knowledge of current practice by ensuring that we offer opportunities for training and re-training. New technology is also playing a major part in the professionalism of the demolition industry, for which we use all available resources to invest in the latest technologically advanced equipment.
We are pleased to inform you that we have had no reportable accidents/incidents as required by RIDDOR in the last three years.
Upon receipt of documentation supplied by the Planning Supervisor, a careful study and evaluation is made of every section. Much of the document is duplicated such as information on the Nature of the Project, Project Particulars, Existing Environment information, Outlined significant risks, Site restrictions, Site wide elements and site rules. The remaining sections are drawn up sometimes at the specification of the Planning Supervisor, but always including text relating to (for example):
To name but a few.
Regular toolbox talks will be held to ensure that staff employed on the project are updated of how progress is affecting the site environment, as well as consulting with these employees about any matters which they should be informed of. This along with substantial site induction contributes to a safe working site.
Our independent Safety advisors appointed also carry out site audits with management staff to ensure that we are managing, monitoring and controlling Health and Safety effectively.
The competence of required sub-contractors appointed is judged from their previous experience, recommendations from reputable sources and on specific details provided to us on request. If any such details are not provided or those received are inadequate, the contractor will not be used. Information such as this is asked for as we never intend to have any incompetent sub-contractors operating under our insurance policies or for any to be involved in a project for which we are responsible for.
